The local wedding scene.

Here is an interesting article on the wedding photography industry put together by
Carleton University's Journalism grads. Ok, so I am not a model...gosh...gotta remember to smile for the next portrait.

Calabogie Wedding

We shot quite a few weddings at Calabogie Peaks last summer. This one was covered by Rachelle who had a very fun group and nice timeline to work with...Check out the slide show.

Ottawa Market Walkabout

You may have seen some of this wedding in the new Ottawa Wedding Magazine. It was one of our faves of the summer. We have lots more samples at the studio and free copies of the mag.

Oh Canada

One of the great things about shooting weddings is all the different cultures we get to see...and now you get to see them too. Canada is truly the best country in the world to have been born in. Ok...maybe Costa Rica would have been nice too.

This coverage was by Rachelle...a francophone photographer who is full time at the studio.

Italian wedding at Sala San Marco, Ottawa

Its hard to say who has the best reception food in Ottawa...the Italians sure give everyone a run. The decor at Sala San Marco was actually done by one of the bride`s relatives...
Its always nice to shoot at St Anthony`s. My family farm was right across the street when the
church was built and the Couvrettes lived all along Preston and Booth before it became little
Italy.

Hilton Lac Leamy Wedding

The Hilton Lac Leamy has to be one of our fave locations. This venue has it all...great food, avant guard decor and even a park right outside the door. Isn`t this a great dress....

Wakefield Bridge Wedding

Surfers at your wedding...surely not in Ottawa?

Check out the kid in the front row...I wanna be him when I grow up...

Back seat fun...

Another great coverage by Rachelle....sorry I missed this one. Two brides and double the fun.

Summer IS coming.

Man o man...it was a hot day to shoot a wedding. The backyard pool sure helped the reception, though I was disappointed nobody jumped in. I would have, but I was working.

Brockville Yacht Club

Some of our favorite weddings are out in the country and along the Seaway. The bride is a prominent Toronto newscaster. Coverage was by Serge.

Major's Hill Park and Hampton Inn

The Hampton Inn seems to be booking quite a few weddings these days...the look is industrial
chic if you shoot at the Inn...but there is a great park nearby we really like.

Rockeries and The Courtyard Restaurant

Some locations are trickier than others as far as shooting. Unless you know what you are doing and have the equipment to pull it off, a lot of locations like Montebello, The Chateau Laurier and the Courtyard Restaurant tend to look like giant black holes. Experience is the key...1000 weddings to date!!!....and counting.

Haiti Fundraiser at the NAC

Last night at the NAC we volunteered as the official photographers to a Fundraiser for Haiti.
I have been mesmerized by the tragedy in Haiti for some time and leapt at the chance to help.

The dinner, which featured a fabulous meal created by a dozen of Ottawa's top chefs raised over 60K in one evening for Care Canada's work in Haiti. This amount will be matched by the
Federal Government, meaning that this one nights effort raised an eighth of a million dollars!

The people from CARE really do care... and their thanks was really the icing on the cake.

Ottawa Bar Mitzvah

A Bar Mitzvah is fun...but for twins...as they say, double the fun. These coverages require both the ability to create classic portraits as well as capture all the fun of the party in photojournalism style coverage.

Enjoy the party...

Museum of Civilization Korean Wedding.

I have always felt that the best way to compare photographers is to see a whole wedding, not just a couple of shots...
Serge, a veteran photographer at the studio covered this wedding last fall. Among other claims to fame he is Francophone and was once the PM's staff photojournalist.

Enjoy

Ottawa Photographers

Comparing photographers is a daunting task. Anyone can shoot a thousand shots on a wedding and get a few good ones. Unfortunately you can`t compare what one photographer will do given identical conditions and the same subject....unless....a person is photographed a few days apart in the same room by three different photographers.

Melanie Aitken is a prominent local executive who is smart, pretty and has a great boardroom. Here`s my version and two local wedding photojournalists shots.

There is an old saying that a photograph is worth a thousand words. I will let the photographs speak for themselves.

Winter Wedding at the Chateau Laurier

Remember that minus 30 day around Christmas... We were out with an adventurous couple shooting on Parliament Hill. Their Chateau Laurier winter wedding was a great challenge for both the couple and our equipment...it was an icy blast...but a blast to shoot.

Dog Portrait Ottawa

Photographing animals requires some special skills. I`m a cat person and I can tell you that
cats are the toughest. Next comes small dogs. Here is one amazing little Pom we shot for an
Ottawa breeder who was featured on the cover of this months Dog Digest. Shooting for magazine covers is tough since their technical standards are quite high. We love the challenge!
Got animals...bring em along for your next family portrait...
